The SUSA Academy Soccer Club project is A-Turf’s showcase soccer-specific synthetic, multi-field sports facility project in the Long Island/Metro NY area. This region represents the most densely populated soccer-playing population in the United States, making this project very important to the region.
The SUSA FC project consisted of building 4 new, full-size soccer fields with additional lines for smaller side games for younger players. This soccer-specific park was built for training the club’s 2,000 members and for hosting the SUSA FC league and Cup matches.
The fields are expected to get intense usage, as it is estimated they will be in use about 320 days a year for up to 12 hours a day, including daylight and under the lights play. This facility will also host several tournaments a year, averaging 100 teams per event, 20 players and coaches per team, and approximately 14,000 participants a year.
Once the project was underway, the biggest challenge was the labor shutdown in NY state due to COVID-19, causing ongoing delays. Project completion was delayed by a couple of weeks from the original date, but by maximizing the management of the installation crews, the project crossed the finish line on October 10, 2020.
A-Turf’s Titan S-50 with EPDM was used for this project. The density of the system fibers and the ability to access and use EPDM rubber was one of the most important features of this project. The EPDM rubber allows for soccer-specific playability and durability.
The aesthetic appeal of the A-Turf Titan system and the SUSA FC center circle logos is striking and leaves a positive impression on the players, coaches, and parents.
